Dr. Jim Catt, Practice Coach

Dr. James Catt

Dr. Catt finished his undergraduate education after attending both Montana State University and then Oregon State University where he worked in a virology lab for the dairy industry. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with his Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology in 1993 and immediately transitioned to Oregon Health Science University (OHSU) for his dental education. He graduated from OHSU with Honors in 1997 with a Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD). Thereafter, Dr. Catt began a unique four-year associateship/mentorship in beautiful Medford Oregon. During those first four formative years in practice, he was introduced to the solid fundamentals of the practice of dentistry. It was his mentor who introduced him to Dr. P.I. Branemark, the “Father of Implant Dentistry” and his esteemed colleague surgeon Dr. Peter Moy through one of the original US based Branemark implant study clubs, thus providing his passion for restorative implant dentistry. An important adjunct to his clinical skills was his subsequent completion of the Orthognathic Bioesthetic Institute’s four-year curriculum. This vigorous program provided the foundation for which his comprehensive, health centered practice has been based for the last twenty years.

Dr. Catt served organized dentistry and the dental profession as a leader at the state and national levels for thirteen years, with the culmination of his service being his tenure as the President of the Oregon Dental Association and a Delegate at the American Dental Association. Dr. Catt was invited several times to the Washington, D.C. Leadership Conference where he and other leaders educated congressional senators and representatives on dental matters affecting our state and nation. He was inducted into the prestigious International College of Dentists and the American College of Dentists in 2007. In 2008, Dr. Catt organized one of the largest two-day volunteer programs ever held in the state of Oregon. Nearly $1,000,000 of dentistry was donated within two days in Medford, Oregon, with thousands of individuals being served through this Mission of Mercy.

Dr. Catt has completed over 1000 hours of postgraduate continuing education since graduating from OHSU in 1997. Early in his practice career, he enlisted the Growth into Greatness Institute (GIG) to facilitate his plan of more fully developing his health centered, team focused, work-life balanced dental career. Some twenty years later and finding himself in a different stage of a mature dental practice, Dr. Catt once again invested in his practice and his team and went through the GIG curriculum for a second time. He found it to be just as impactful and life changing the second time, if not more so. He understands and is passionate about the potential opportunities leadership coaching and mentorships provide. Besides spending time with his family and flying planes, dentistry is his muse, his colleagues are his best friends, and his patients are his passion.
